Mission-Driven Employment
Working at the Exchange is not just a retail job — it is service to the military community. Every product sold, every meal served, and every gallon of fuel pumped generates earnings that fund fitness centres, youth programmes, outdoor recreation, libraries, and community events on military installations. When you work at the Exchange, your daily effort directly improves quality of life for service members and their families. This mission-driven purpose distinguishes AAFES from civilian retail employers and provides a sense of meaning that extends beyond the paycheque.
The Exchange has served the military community since 1895, and its employees carry that tradition forward every day. Whether you are stocking shelves at Fort Cavazos, managing a food court at Ramstein, or developing the ShopMyExchange online platform at headquarters in Dallas, your work supports a mission that matters.
Military Spouse Employment
Military spouse unemployment and underemployment is one of the most significant challenges facing military families. Frequent PCS moves, overseas assignments, and remote installation locations make it difficult for spouses to maintain consistent careers. The Exchange addresses this directly through its PCS transfer programme, which allows military spouse employees to transfer their Exchange position to a new installation when their service member receives orders.
This portable employment benefit is virtually unique in the retail industry. A military spouse working as a store manager at Fort Liberty can transfer to a comparable role at Fort Cavazos, JBLM, or even Ramstein Air Base without reapplying, losing seniority, or interrupting benefits. AAFES participates in the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) and actively recruits at military spouse employment events on installations worldwide. The Exchange understands the military lifestyle because it exists within it.
